They offer beautiful scenery, room for little ones to explore, and the kind of timeless backdrop that never goes out of style.

As a Nantucket family photographer, these are typically my top choices when picking where to go!

Start with a Nantucket Classic

Brant Point Lighthouse is one of the most beloved places on the island, and for good reason. 

It is the lighthouse you pass as the ferry arrives, which makes it feel especially meaningful for families visiting Nantucket. You get so much variety and experience here. I would say it’s probably one of the most frequently visited beaches on the island. 

Children love exploring the shoreline and hunting for shells along the calm water. Parents love the soft beach grasses, blooming beach roses, and the chance of a sailboat drifting by at just the right moment.

There is even the sweet island tradition of tossing a penny into the sound to make sure you return to Nantucket again someday.

Another Location Option is Sconset!

Sconset has so much variety packed into one location. 

You can begin near the charming cottages and flower-lined streets, then make your way toward the beach. In late June and early July, the famous pink roses are often in bloom, which adds such a romantic and colorful touch.

The shelled streets, footbridge, and white cottages create a storybook backdrop. For families with younger children, the playground nearby is a fun way to end the session.

And if everyone wants a treat afterward, Sconset Market is just around the corner for ice cream.

Top Locations in Nantucket for Your Family Photo Session

If you are hoping for a quieter beach with sweeping dunes, Miacomet Beach is also a wonderful option.

 With the pond on one side and the ocean on the other, it offers a unique landscape that feels peaceful and tucked away.

Another Option is Steps Beach

Steps Beach is on the North side of the island, so the water is typically gentle & calm. It’s perfect for little ones who want to dip their toes in! Steps Beach also has beautiful architecture nearby since it is closer to town, so that makes for variety in your final gallery.

And nearby, Washing Pond Beach is also beautiful!

This is also a relaxed beach not too far from Steps Beach. It’s a little more removed from town so you get those sweeping ocean views. The perfect spot to explore the shoreline, and collect shells while the sun begins to set. Both morning light and evening light are beautiful here!

Another favorite is Old North Wharf!

This is another beautiful option, especially from mid June through August when the hydrangeas are in bloom. The colorful flowers, charming cottages, and classic wharf setting create a timeless Nantucket backdrop.

It feels especially lovely for families who want a location that is both coastal and full of island character.
