There is something so magical about gathering your little ones on the beach during sunset and playing in the fading light together. I met up with this sweet family of five at Tom Nevers Beach here in Nantucket.
If you have not been to this location, let me tell you how dreamy it is. It feels tucked away from the rest of the island, with wide open stretches of sand. The dunes are peaceful, and there’s plenty of room for families to simply be together.
This sweet golden hour session was such a beautiful moment for this busy family to slow down and enjoy the island.
When you have three little kids, so much of your life involves rushing around. Getting in and out of car seats. Going to dance class. Making sure the goldfish are always stocked. So having time to slow down, and simply be present & playful with each other… that’s so precious!
This family returns to Nantucket year after year because it is their happy place, and I’ve had the privilege of taking their family photos more than once. This was such a joy to document another chapter of their story here.

From the moment we met, the entire session was just a playful time together. The beach was nearly empty, giving us the space to wander, laugh, and let the kids explore without distraction.
A soft haze settled over the evening sky, creating the dreamiest light. It gave every image that calm, timeless feel we all love so much.
Instead of worrying about perfect poses, we focused instead on genuine moments. Sisters hugged each other tightly in the sand. Mom laughed as the little ones gathered around her. Dad carried his youngest while the family strolled along the shoreline.
I like to imagine these photos hanging on the walls of their house. These are the moments that tell the story of this season years from now.

One of my favorite things about this location is how naturally it encourages families to slow down. There is plenty of space for little feet to run, parents to relax, and everyone to settle into the moment. While some locations are a little busier, and can bring that fun Nantucket vibe with more people around… this spot is more secluded and perfect if you have kids who are more shy.
If you want to see a full location breakdown of my favorite spots on the island, I have a guide here you can see!

One of the best parts of scheduling family photos during your Nantucket vacation is that your images become part of the memories you already treasure.
Long after you’ve flown home and unpacked your bags, these photographs will bring you back to slow walks on the beach, salty air, and the joy of being together in a place that feels like home.
