Chris wanted to plan the perfect proposal for his girlfriend Claire. He told me what he had in mind for the special day. He wanted to have a picnic-style set up at Steps Beach just before sunset. He knew he wanted to have an arrangement of flowers and of course the color yellow which is Claire’s favorite color, champagne to toast and surprise her with a wrapped book. This was not any book! It was a signed copy of Elin Hilderbrand’s novel Blue Bistro with a special note inside. This was a big deal because Elin is Claire’s favorite author. He knew he needed some help to gather all the items to make it all come together since he didn’t live on the island. So, I had gathered these items for him. I went to Marine Home Center to pick out the perfect cozy blue blanket, nautical towels, and champagne glasses. Went to Mitchell’s Book Corner to pick up the special book. Then I had gotten the perfect yellow wrapping paper and ribbon for it at Create and went to Current Vintage to pick out the Champagne. It was so much fun going around the island gathering all these items to make this the perfect day for Claire and Chris.
It was the day of their session and the weather couldn’t have been more gorgeous! We had blue sunny skies and no wind. Before I headed to the beach to set things up I had to pick up the yellow flower arrangement from Soiree Floral. It was absolutely beautiful! I had my husband with me to help set things up at the beach before they arrived. The beach was packed! But I managed to find a clear secluded spot off to the side. I didn’t want anything to be in the way. I laid everything out and then set up an area for me to keep watch. I had told a group of people nearby that there was going to be a proposal as they were curious about what was going on. They were waiting by the minute like me for everything to happen. I sat there looking like a normal person with my beach bag by my side with all my gear in it. He texted me that he had arrived and the magic was about to begin.
I saw them coming down the beach headed towards the blanket, they arrived at the spot and sat down so that Chris could surprise her with the book. Inside the book, the note said “ I hope Nantucket brings you as many memories as it has me! Congrats Elin“ That was Chris’s cue to stand up with her and then get down on one knee to ask the love of his life to marry him. Of course, she said YES!!!! People on the beach started clapping and cheering them on. I was so happy that everything went according to plan. She was completely blown away and had no idea that he was planning this all along. After they shared a toast we then took some pictures until just before the sunset. What a beautiful evening we had. They gave a toast in front of the sunset and sat on the blanket to soak it all in before they headed to the Pearl for dinner. The surprises didn’t stop there…
The next day arrived and Chris took Claire to Mitchell’s Book Corner for another exciting surprise. She got to meet Elin in person!!! Chris and Elin had planned this for months prior. Claire was completely surprised and hadn’t a clue that this was going to happen.” It was a fairytale and blessing to have met her.” She said.
It was such an honor to have been their photographer to capture one of the most special days of their lives and helping to plan it all without a hitch was amazing. I am so happy for them! Cheers to this wonderful couple!
